With the most scenic site on the White River, three miles of river frontage for
fantastic fishing and an historic downtown, Cotter is a wonderful place to vacation,
shop or live.
Cotter was built upon the strength of character of strong willed people who built
the railroad through here almost a hundred years ago. This colorful history helped
preserve the integrity of the community through good times and bad. Early
railroaders and their descendants still live in Cotter and help form the foundation
for recovery even today.
The Cotter Area Chamber of Commerce is a
diverse mix of individuals from river guides to
retailers, restaurants to relocation, committed to
the betterment of Cotter and her people.
Our members are interested in the revitalization of our historic downtown area and
the rehabilitation of the buildings there. In addition, we help promote fishing events
through the year. Cotter has been officially designated by the Arkansas
Legislature as Trout Capital USA, and, as possibly the best fishing spot in the
Ozarks, truly deserves the title.
The Great Cotter Trout Festival
Each year the Cotter Chamber hosts the "The Great Cotter Trout Festival" at Big
Spring Park which celebrates world class trout fishing and safe boating in the
Cotter area. Major sponsors have included the North Arkansas Fly Fishers,
Mid-South Fly Fishers, Rod and Reel Fishing Club, and the Arkansas Game and
Fish Commission. Great food, entertainment and arts and crafts exhibits round out
an outstanding family attraction.
New Businesses
Some members are in the process of rejuvenating their business buildings and
homes. Additionally, we believe that there is a prime area for development outside
the historic area along the US Highway 62/412 corridor.
Members of the Cotter Area Chamber of Commerce offer complete vacation
accommodations that are available year round. Cotter is blessed with the same
natural splendor that captivated early settlers to this region one hundred years
ago.
Of course, our biggest assets are the White River and the beauty of the
surrounding area. Anglers come from all over the world at all times of year to test
the rainbow and brown trout, while non-fishing visitors walk the nature trails (one
upriver, one downriver) or watch the kids swimming in the Big Spring. Always at
the back of our minds is our historic designation of "Trout Capital, USA."
Chamber meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. at the
Cotter VFW Hall. If you're interested in helping Cotter, please join us there. For
further information, write office@cotterarkansas.com or call 870.321.1243.
