Relocation to Historic Downtown Cotter

Imagine living in a small, hillside village in the Ozark Mountains on the shores of the sparkling White River. Go down to the park early in the morning with a thermos of coffee and watch the mist-shrouded river wake up. Soon, you'll see some of your fellow villagers -- the river guides -- come down to the docks to pick up their passengers for the day.

Spend the morning fly-fishing around the bend in the river or bird-watching along the nature trail. Wander a few blocks, have  lunch and go shopping for antiques.  Check your mail at the post office and pick up a copy of the latest Trout Capital News.

In the evening enjoy the most beautiful sunsets in the Ozarks.  You can be part of this for a short time, or a lifetime. Come enjoy our history and be part of our future.

Cotter, Arkansas, is blessed with the same natural splendor that captivated early settlers as they stepped from the "Iron Mountain Line" at the Cotter Depot nearly one hundred years ago. Many found better lives and decided to stay. Today, it appears our history is repeating itself as visitors come to re-discover the region and make their mark.

We hope we can help you relocate your family or your business interests to our Ozarks. There is a good chance that your cost of living will be much less than you have now. There is a great chance your quality of life in the Cotter area will be much better.

In addition to having excellent primary and secondary schools, the Cotter area now has direct access to a major development in the field of higher education. The recent completion of the new campus of Arkansas State University Mountain Home, only a short ten minute drive east of Cotter, will provide academic excellence and enhance the quality of life for future generations.

Housing in Cotter is generally less expensive than in some other areas of the county. But there is a wonderful variety to choose from. We have unique small cottages -- no two are alike -- and large, modern homes that seem to hang over the bluffs.

Opportunities for historical restoration are best represented by two structures in our downtown area, both very large. The first is the oldest building still standing in town, The Commercial Hotel, 1903. The second, the Cannady Building, 1906, was a grocery and general store for many years. If you're interested, we can put you in touch with the owners.
