Have a Great Vacation on the White River

Located on the banks of the crystal clear White River, Cotter can be described as the perfect vacation spot. The tail-waters from Bull Shoals Dam provide exciting trout fishing for the whole family. Our outfitters provide guided access not only to the White River, but also the nearby Buffalo National River, and North Fork Rivers.

Trout fishing on the White River     Not interested in fishing? Well, we suppose it's possible! Our outfitters and guides will be more than happy to take you on a float trip to enjoy the incredible scenery. You might even learn something about how tricky it is to drive one of these john boats, whether the water is high or low.

How about exploring the riverbank to see what you can find -- maybe even an arrowhead. "Bankcombing" is a wonderful way to Cotter Trout Dock, Big Spring, and White River free access pointspend some time any time of day. If it's hot, just wade a minute in the icy water. You'll be surprised how fast you get comfortable. If it's cold, put on a sweater for a while. You'll probably just wrap it around your shoulders  soon -- the walking will make you warm and comfortable.
Looking from the railroad bridge upriver on the walking trail

Speaking of walking, we have one of the most beautiful pairs of walking trails anywhere. The upriver one starts near the river access point at the park and ends two miles upriver near some large rock shelters. The sign pointing the way is just across the street at Big Spring Park. The downriver trail is just on the other side of  the flatcar bridge. Part of this trail is really close to the riverbank at times, so it's easy to get wet when you want -- unless the river is up!

Need to get inside? Come browse our downtown shops and Bridge which starts the downstream walking trailsee what treasures you can find.

If you tire of perfect peace, the serenity of Cotter is only a short drive from Lake Norfork and Bull Shoals Lake as well as the full range of conveniences in Mountain Home, a bustling, rapidly growing regional center. If you're interested in history, the Wolf House in Norfork (now undergoing Downtown Cotterrestoration), Mountain Village 1890 in Bull Shoals, or the Rollins Hospital Museum and Garr-Jackson Genealogy Library in Gassville might be of interest. After a busy day sightseeing, we bet you'll be glad to get back to your home away from home, on the banks of the White River.

     We'll be waiting.

     Come back to Cotter, again.
